It's an entertaining E.P., particularly for fans of old-school black metal, but the majority of the songs are still a little too plodding to be of any real interest, and won't attract the same fans as the band's more contemporary blackened rock style. showcased on the first half of this release. The most disappointing aspect of the other songs is how poor some of them sound in contrast to the high sound quality of the demo. 'Humiliation Chant' is a reasonable keyboard interlude, no different fr...more

Rating:

As a cut-price E.P. "for fans" rather than a full-length cash-in, 'Skjend Hans Lik' can't be faulted too much, but it's still essentially pointless outside of the opportunity it provides to hear the band's original 'Bloodlust and Perversion' demo in all its remastered glory. The demo itself is the key selling point, and it's really been remastered a treat. The volume issues have been sorted out, and every instrument is now audible and equal, from Nattefrost's gurgling vocals to the raw guitars and ambient sound effects of the final two tracks that now sound a lot more professional. Heavy Metal - 1997

Great songs None really

Some successful experiments. Some really bad experiments.

Not quite as bad as I expected. Weak, repetitive and pointless.

Creative and distinctive fusion of metal and symphony. Acted interludes are unnecessary and distracting.

An excellent rock album, fantastic from start to finish. Some may be put off by the musical change in direction that Avenged Sevenfold took here.

Abigail II - King Diamond
Some great heavy metal riffs, band on top form. Doesn't make as much of an impact as the first album.

A Passion Play - Jethro Tull
Classic Rock - 2003

Crazeology - Charlie Parker
It's Charlie Parker. Not enough.

Defenders Of The Faith - Judas Priest
More great eighties heavy metal. Nothing new after 'Screaming for Vengeance.'

Demolition - Judas Priest
One or two memorable moments, Owens isn't a bad singer. Slow and tedious, lacks any originality.

Even If It Kills Me - Motion City Soundtrack
A great mix of fast paced catchy songs and slower ballads None

Ghost Opera - Kamelot
Violin used well in numerous songs, and band crawls out of the gloom of the previous album. Songs don't stand out, and offer very little.

I Walk Among You - Iced Earth
The new song is pretty good, if nothing we haven't heard before. Pointless overdubs of average songs with a copycat singer.

Karma - Kamelot
Arguably perfects the band's symphonic metal style. Too cheesy on occasion, and ballads interrupt the flow.
