'Skybound' is a somewhat biographical coming of age album and is Baxter's follow up to his 2004 debut 'Feather and Stone'. After recording the album Baxter released it independently via iTunes on June 4th 2006 and it wasn't long before it topped the download charts. Baxter's ambition and determination to produce this album is evident in how it was funded for his own label 'Sylvan Records'. He produced ten paintings on canvas and sold them at exhibition. The ten canvases were also used as artwork for the album. 'Skybound' comprises an accomplished collection of soulful ballads and beautiful melodies that fuse jazz and blues with easy listening pop. Tom Baxter has to be one of the best break through singer/songwriters that i have heard for a very long while. Merging the styles of Flamenco,Rock, Pop and Folk, this is done very successfully indeed. Being the first artist to do this it is quite a combination of fine guitar riffs and a voice which is and CAN be compared to Jeff Buckley. From this album songs such as "Tell her Today" which has a beautiful Spanish influence and the chilling and very emotional "Half a Man" which can move even the most emotionless of humans, you also cant forget the ever so popular "Better" which even got to be on the A playlist on Radio 2.
