Advantages: A continuation of slipknot mayhem
Disadvantages: Could've finished there.
After the amazing shot up to success, Slipknot were left reeling in disbelief.
But as soon as there final tour finished, they were under orders to get back into the groove of what would be the difficult second album.
Joey Jordison and Paul Gray (Drummer & Bassist), Took full control and wrote virtually all the songs listed on Iowa. Seeing this as a moment of unfair control The rest of the band felt they had no say in there art. What would be considered as the worst experience in the studio they have had, all the fights that broke out, all the hatred was placed into the album.
you can tell very easily in alot of the tracks that there was some major disturbances. In the wake of all this. Iowa became into a full blown nightmare fused with pure molten metal. with songs like heretic anthem, and my plague Disasterpiece showed the most degraded lyrics that would later be a teenagers stupid influence to go and kill someone. This album created controversial moments in the media. One big newspaper (won't name names, they'll moan about it later on) Smeared lies about slipknot all over there so called honest paper. claiming a kid in germany shot up his school and himself believing in the lyrics of a slipknot song entitled "school-wars" with words in the music screaming and i quote "Shoot your NAUGHTY teacher with a pump-gun". But any of you people who follow slipknot know that this is entirely fabricated. and we still yet to see an apology from tabloids.
Anyways this album was released to glowing review to all critics. and was the first metal to go number one in the uk sense pantera's vulgar display of power. Iowa became another success to slipknot but it also became their biggest problem.
to see how this would be out done, they would have to take time away from each other. A course not well supported from there record label, almost ending them completely. But as some would say, "Soldiers sometimes need rest to wake up the next day to become killers."
Summary: Metal mayhem at its rawest!
