Slipknot – IOWA

This album has to be one of the most eagerly awaited albums of this year. Now I have just gone out and bought this album because I’m a huge slipknot fan and I got the silver version (where as the normal one has a white cover this has a shiny silver cover and back) and after listening to it a couple of times I thought I would write a review on it, so the rest of you can see what its like if you don’t what to buy the album or just don’t know weather to get it or not.

This album is not what you are expecting, whatever you were expecting, it is a lot heavier than Slipknot – Slipknot, but I think they are turning now practically into a normal heavy metal band, they have got no slow strange songs on the album, like prosthetics was- its just all heavy all the way. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining about it because the tracks are great, but it feels like this album they just got there guitars made up some heavy riffs and through it all together. There is one song that is slower than the rest and its not an original track from this album- its ‘Gently’ off the original ‘Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat’ album of 1997, just this is heavier and in my opinion wrecks the original song that felt as though it had real soul with that fabulous riff.

Also the last song on the album ‘Iowa’ is a newer more complicated/heavy version of the old song ‘Killers Are Quiet’ which also featured on the 1997 ‘Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.’ Album. The original song was 10 minuets long but this version is 15 (and 3 seconds).

Over all this is still a great album, but I still feel not as much effort has been put into this album as the Slipknot – Slipknot album. There are no real classics such as ‘Wait and Bleed’ on this album, that’s what I feel anyway.
