Sleeper were ... more ... described in their time as an indie rock band and were compared to the likes of Elastica and Echobelly. This album is listed under the vague genre of 'alternative'. Their second and third albums are more commercial than this debut, the third more pop than rock. Some of the songs are about the usual subject of the majority of music out there, love, relationships, heartache etc. But what I like is Weners ability to write a song about anything.

Smart is the debut album from one of my all time favourite bands Sleeper. Formed in 1993 and originally known as Surrender Dorothy, Sleeper were only around for 5 years, splitting in December 1998. They released 3 studio albums in total, the follow up album was The It Girl and the final album Pleased to Meet You. ~~The Band~~ Louise Wener was the lead singer in the band, played guitar and was the main songwriter. Louise is the most influential member of this band for me. I love her vocals and also admire her songwriting talent. Jon Stewart played guitars and collaborated with Louise on some of the tracks.
