This band have been prominent in my life since my early teens and they have walked with me from that age to where I am now, in the background whilst I began working and when I discovered beer and sex; watching on whilst I married and had kids and holding my hand when the marriage fell through and I got divorced. Sounds corny, I know, but I guess everyone has that own special band that they have loved for years and years... 'Snakes and Arrows' is Rush's first since 2002. 'Rush' anno 2007 - 'Snakes & Ladders', a potpourri of Rock a la traditional themes dear to die hard fans, 'Far Cry', 'Workin' Them Angels' to instrumental workouts like the, yet again, Grammy-nominated, 'Malignant Narcissism', and the Alex Lifeson solo guitar piece, 'Hope' to relative new territory in 'The Larger Bowl' or 'Bravest Face'. As usual, something for everyone who takes the time to find their own personal 'pearl of great price' hidden amongst possible leftovers from past sessions, or simply sub-standard efforts to what 'Rush' fans have grown accustomed to hearing. Finally - after some anticipation built up by not only a Rush in Rio Live album, the R30 Anniversary Tour and the release of a triple classic DVD set - the new album arrived earlier in the year. Many may have been thinking we'd hear no more from this legendary trio - but they're back, and in a similar vein to the previous album, Vapor Trails, this is a mature and thoughtful record - more AOR than Prog. For those who have never heard of Rush - get Moving Pictures (1981) - you'll be hooked.
