Come Taste The Man - Tommy Bolin
by dangaroo - written on 11/07/08 (Very useful, 77 readings)
Rating:
Tommy Bolin - Come Taste The Man As I ve mentioned in previous Zephyr & Moxy reviews, Tommy Bolin is one of my favourite guitarists and it s a shame he died at the mere age of 24, considering what he achieved in a short period of time pre-drug overdose. The guy had character and oodles of talent, despite not being able to read music he could turn his hand to just about any style and knock out complicated compositions in no time at all. The majority of his best work was done pre-Deep Purple years though when it wasn t apparent that he had a deadly heroin addiction. Products similar to Snapshot - Tommy Bolin
You Had It Coming - Jeff Beck
Jeff Beck continuing to evolve.
What a poorly chosen direction.
The Silent Circus - Between The Buried And Me
Moving more towards a sound of their own, before it ultimately collapses.
Still too much being squeezed into each song, at significant cost to the enjoyment.
Situation Dangerous - Bozzio Levin Stevens
Past Times With Good Company - Blackmore's Night
More diverse than the studio albums, with less filler.
Songs extended for far too long, and Deep Purple fans perhaps leave even more annoyed than before.
The Physics Of Fire - Becoming the Archetype
Doesn't descend into screaming metalcore.
Progressive elements are now pretty dull, and most songs sound exactly the same.
Jeff - Jeff Beck
Techno rhythms have been toned down.
Hip hop and electronic elements still lead the way, and are rubbish.
Darwin - Banco del Mutuo Soccorso
Perfects the chamber prog style, and calms down some of the structural insanity.
Still only for hardcore prog fans.
Between The Buried And Me - Between The Buried And Me
Attempts to be something different.
Awkward results.
Il Vuoto - Franco Battiao
Classical elements incorporated nicely.
Contrasting pop and electro elements in certain songs.
