      Unmissable Cornish fun!

It's a sign of a truly great album when you love every song and the CD stands up to constant repetition. I defy anyone to listen to Social Vertigo by 3 Daft Monkeys and not find themselves toe tapping before a bit of full blown dancing! This CD is beautifully orchestrated with influences ranging from Jewish to Salsa with heartfelt and thoughtful lyrics. The CD opens with the stonking Paranoid Big Brother which is a humorous appraisal of the CCTV cameras in society. The pace doesn't let up with the 100mph Eyes of Gaia which really lets fiddler Athene Roberts show just how talented she is. She makes playing the most intense riffs on the violin look easy and her fiddling is like nothing you will hear outside the Philharmonic. Frenetic doesn't even cover it. It's the most joyous talent I've ever heard. As if that's not enough, her gentle voice is at its best on the title track Social Vertigo and Monkey and the Slipper. Jamie Waters provides solid underpinnings with great bass and Tim Ashton managed to sing, play 12-string guitar, penny whistle and kick drum - quite often at the same time! It's a wonderful album - but it, wonder a while why this band isn't topping the charts and then go and see them live for the full experience!

A truly amazing album from an amazing group!

3 Daft monkeys are a folk group who from Cornwall who play "European Celtic folk music" There are 3 people in the band, playing bass, fiddle, foot drum, guitar, whistle and vocals. The music sounds very Spanish, but has a lot of traditional sounding folk tunes mixed in as well. This is their 5th CD. The album has 13 tracks, and nearly all of them make you want to get up and dance. The first track, Paranoid Big Brother, is a political protest about the UK becoming a "big brother state" It is fast and lively, with a really memorable chorus. Like all their songs it is easy to pick up and sing along to. Most of the songs on the album are about socio-political problems, or the environment, but some, like the song "Social Vertigo" are about getting drunk and having a good time. My favourite thing about this album is the phenomenal violin playing, which is crazy, yet beautiful. If you like upbeat, fast moving folk, I cannot recommend this album enough!
