Never heard of 'The Sisters'? Think goth! No not emo! Goth! Proper '80s goth. Its all black cowboy hats, long black velvet coats and dry ice. Well that was the glamorous side of it. Listen to these songs and think beatnik and speed-freek. The songs on this album, MUST have been born in the sixties. They are lyrically dark and drip of bedsit, so do the sounds they make. Doktor Avalanche provides drums noises, not technical expertise. you get on some songs the rhythm section of a kids toy, on other songs this rhythm section thunders at you. I happen to like drum machines - I also happen to like ... Read the complete review

'Some Girls Wander By Mistake' is a glimpse into the early years of future Goth-rock( or, as Eldritch calls it, the G word) legends the Sisters of Mercy, all the way from Eldritch and Marx's bizzarely sub-par Pere-Ubu/Fall amalgamation 'Damage Done/Watch' single to the gorgeous disco-esque poundings of the classic 'Alice' and 'Anaconda'. The title comes from the line in a Leonard Cohen song which the Sisters simply butchered in feedback and mechanical pounding during their very first gig. 'Some Girls Wander...' is flawed in many ways, but shows the band in a very naive , innocent light which they would never find again in the ... Read the complete review

Again I am challenged to review a CD, this time by a self titled ex goth known as Scattyredhead. The CD in question was anything by The Sisters of Mercy. Popping off to www.allmusic.com to look the band up I noticed one of their albums was recommended so I decided that would be the one to download and review. Whoops, it was a nineteen track download – after one chunky download session this album better be worth it! Based an what Allmusic have to say about the band I’m fairly hopeful it will be; “the Sisters of Mercy play a slow, gloomy, ponderous hybrid of metal and psychedelia, often incorporating dance beats”. Sounds like it could well be me ... Read the complete review

Next to the Wayne Hussey material (not included here), this album contains some of the best musical output from The Sisters. The music is very raw throughout - the same tin-pot drum machine sounding the same no matter what the pattern used. the voice is typically monotonous - the only thing that's missing is the dry ice, the taunting of the audience ("okay, hippy scum, here it comes..." and disgusting shirts! All the singles and b-sides (except for the 7" version of "Temple Of Love") are here but the CD version has something missing - the scratching of the needle on the record as it plays. A little bit too sterile to those of us ... Read the complete review

I am not a great fan of the ‘sisters’, but sometimes, I am in the mood for something a little more goth than metal, and no-one fits the bill quite like these. This album is basically a collection of the bands first six Eps, and I am sure that for true Sisters Of Mercy fans there is plenty of nostalgia to be found. Some tracks included are ‘Alice’. ‘Floorshow’ ‘Heartland’ and ‘Temple Of Love’. There is an intensity about Sisters Of Mercy, that may or not be real, but when you’re listening to the music, you don’t really care either way. Put on the CD, lay back, and remember the days ...
