The Best Of Chicane 1996-2008 - Chicane

Premium Review A slice of Sunshine (377 words)
by benlepensive - written on 31/03/09 (Very useful, 104 readings)
Rating:

interesting person to interview. It is fortunate then that his music is very good. Style of music: Since his debut in 1996 with the track Offshore , Chicane have continued to make Ibiza drenched dance music, often with ambient undetones and sweeping melodies. It works as chill out music but also as music to dance to. Highlights: This is a best of album, collecting twelve years of work. Offshore starts the album off on a good foot. It is an epic song, driven by an electronic piano riff which just builds gradually before crashing into full flow. It would be a perfect soundtrack to lying on a beach, watching the sea on the shoreline. Bruised Water is an inventive ...

The Best Of Chicane 1996-2008 - Chicane

Premium Review The Spirit of The Heart (1096 words)
by plipplop - written on 28/04/09 (Very useful, 160 readings)
Rating:

The brainchild of musician and producer Nick Bracegirdle (cool name, eh?), Chicane has been a stalwart of the ambient/chill out scene since 1996. Plagued by legal battles with record labels, Chicane has struggled to maintain a string presence in commercial music charts but has gathered enough of a following to justify a greatest hits compilation that peaked inside the top 20 in the latter part of 2008. For many (or possibly most) Chicane will forever be associated with the island of Ibiza. Evoking memories of chilled out mornings watching the sun rise on the one hand and then maybe on the other the occasional anthem that virtually brings the dance floor to a standstill. ...

Far From The Maddening Crowds - Chicane

Premium Review Progressive debut (200 words)
by moleman - written on 16/09/00 (Useful, 67 readings)
Rating:

Chicane started out as a duo, whose work is highlighted on this album, but one of them left as he felt they were becoming too commercial. So, this album is split between collaboration and Nick Bragegirdle's solo efforts. It's a different style to the chartier stuff turned out recently. Starting on a progressive slant, nothing much happens during the ambient first two tracks. Lost you Somewhere is the first single on the album, an nice bit of trance. The ablum seems to be a concept piece - the titles reflect a night in Ibiza - Sunstroke, Red Skies, The Drive Home, but its far more lid back than any 'Ibiza' compilation. Standout tracks are the classic Offshore, and the ...

Some great catchy electropop numbers. Some dull ballads and a disappointing remix of what should have been the album's best track.
