What goes around comes around, or so it’s been said. For the first time, I’m managing to think about the statement in musical terms. After all, the first time I heard of Rob Thomas, it was when he was singing without his band, as a guest vocalist on Santana’s “Smooth”. As it was the only way to hear more from him, I picked up a couple of albums of him and his band, Matchbox Twenty and became a huge fan, more or less immediately. Now, about four years later, the time has come to listen to Rob Thomas singing solo again. This time, he’s not got Matchbox Twenty with him and there’s no Santana. But having enjoyed hugely the summery Latin feel of “Smooth” and ... Read the complete review

“Well, I don’t wanna be lonely no more, I don’t wanna have to pay for this.” This song line had embedded itself in my mind and after a weekend of hearing Rob Thomas’s “Lonely no more” everywhere I went I just had to sample more than the one song and on seeing an advert for “Something to be” on the telly I knew I had to get a copy of the album. On first listen I was struck by the Latino sound to many of the pieces with Rob Thomas’ voice sounding like a pleasing mix of Sting, Jon Bon Jovi, Enrique Iglesias and Ricky Martin. In fact this eclectic mix of sounds is reflected in every song upon this album and extends to the variety of song genres mixed ... Read the complete review

You may not have heard of Rob Thomas, but I'm sure you'll have heard his music somewhere along the line. Rob Thomas is the lead singer/songwriter of American rock band Matchbox Twenty and before that he was in a band called Tabitha's Secret. Matchbox Twenty are big in America, but they haven't quite made the same impact on the UK, despite playing to sell-out audiences in Arenas across the country. A Rob Thomas song that I'm sure you will have heard on the radio is "Smooth" by Santana. Released in 1999, Rob co-wrote and sang on Carlos Santana's triple-platinum hit (found on Santana's "Supernatural" album). Another Rob ... Read the complete review

A utterly stunning debut album from the Matchbox Twenty lead singer. This album continues a mixture of ballads, turn the volume up Rock/Indie tracks and some songs that would be at home on a Matchbox Twenty Album. Certainly a must have album for all Matchbox Twenty Fans. Star tracks include "Lonely No More" & the album title "Something to Be". The best ballad on the album is "Ever The Same" with Rob's voice being powerful, a nice change from the Matchbox Twenty sound. Rob brings a twist if Indie with the song "All That I Am" & "My My My" If your a fan of Kid Rock, Uncle Kracker or the Goo Goo Dolls you will love ... Read the complete review
