Advantages: original, great vocals, great songwriting
Disadvantages: -
Honestly with this album, I heard many people talking about the group and how great they were but for some reason it never appealed to me to have a listen. I then, like most people heard 'This Love' on the radio. Everyone must have heard this song it is inescapable as it has been used for adverts, film trailers you name it. So finally, my friend had bought the album and I asked if I could borrow it. Surprisingly a few songs had started to grow on me and before I knew it the album was in my CD player non-stop. Unfortunately though, I did have to hand it back but before everyone says awwww I did purchase my own copy :-) so now I will review it.

1.HARDER TO BREATHE-This is a great song and only when I heard this album I recognised this song. I had previously loved it but never known the artist. When first listening to this song do not raise the volume if you hear nothing in the first 2 seconds because then the drums hit really hard and it can be deafening, I am telling you this from previous experience. This is one of the more rock categorised songs on the album. It is catchy and the music is great. Singing is great and this song is definitely good to put first on the album. This song was also popular when it was out and really got the band known.
2.THIS LOVE-The start of this song takes you to a calmer sound than the first song. The words are well written and again the singing is great. This song got the group even more success worldwide. It is a different sound but it does grow, I hated this song at first but it was on so much that I got used to it. The singer has a higher voice than most male singers and that is why it fits with the music because it really stands out above it all and it is relaxing to listen to. If you like this song then you will like the album definitely.
3.SHIVER-The first song you hear which is not a single. This song kicks into life with a quick guitar starting up and then the drum beat slowly hitting in with the rest of the music. It is an unusual sound but I really like this because I have not heard anything like it before. Vocals are great, strong and go soft at the right parts. As with most of Maroon 5's songs the words are really good and I always listen to them because the songs are well written. This could be a future single because it is their style and after a few listens you will love this song. Not too upbeat, just a great pace. To end the song the music builds up and then ends at once.
4.SHE WILL BE LOVED-This is a very different song and is probably the reason they released it as their third single after This Love. It is a slower song and again another I used to hate and skip on the album until it was released and then it really grew on me because it is a lovely song. The singing is very nice and the fact that the singer can reach higher notes the slower music does his voice justice. The song again has a nice theme and the words are well written together. The chorus does stick in to your mind if you listen and I found myself singing along after a while. The high and lower notes all fit in at the right points. Music is not a major point of the song just a drum at the chorus but lightly played and the base and guitar just play in the background at the verses.
5.TANGLED-Up until recently I used to skip this song but I listened to it and now it is one of my favourite songs. I like the music it starts instantly and has a great sound. Upbeat and could also be a future single as could many on this album. Singing is good in this song also and the music plays well with the vocals. This has a different sound again the verses are basic but I like the build up to the chorus. This song is quite relaxed, I'd say mid-tempo. I like the fact the notes for singing are low then go higher and the singer reaches it all with ease. There is a part with no vocals to let you hear the music which lasts for hardly any time but then the vocals begin again. This song just fades out leaving you waiting to hear the next song.
10.THROUGH WITH YOU-This song begins with a quiet piano tune but then it builds up with the guitars and drums. I really like the sound of this song. Although it is slower it is a song that has a great rhythm and the music could never be silent. The singer sings here very strongly and makes this song sound great. The words are great here. This song is about ending a relationship and realising that you have had enough and that it is finished. It is not written as bluntly as that though, the words tell you clearly what it is about. You think the song is finished but then it builds up even more with a guitar piece then back to the chorus. A great song to sit and listen to and then it ends witha build up and then cuts out.
That was just a quick review of my favourite songs off of the album. Overall though there are no songs on the album that I hate. The band is made up of Adam Levine (vocals/guitar), Jesse Carmichael (keyboards), Mickey Madden (bass), and Ryan Dusick (drums) who in the 90's played under the name od Kara's Flowers. They were then called The Fourth World but in 1999 renamed themselves as Maroon 5 and added guitarist James Valentine.
The album cover design is nice for once not featuring the band but an art nouveau style drawing of a woman with red hair holding a music box with swirls flying out of it. The red colour makes the cover stand out because on the shelf all of the other albums are not red. The title 'Songs about Jane' is also unusual. Inside the book it opens up like a leaflet and has all of the song words printed inside which is a good way of learning the words. The back cover is the band playing their instruments but it cleverly places each member in a brown & white print framed with red and the tracklisting. The CD itself is the same picture as on the cover.
I bought the album at Tesco for £8.99 but it can be bought at play.com or cd-wow for a cheaper price as well with free delivery.
