“ Artist: Children of Bodom / Genre: Jazz / / Release Date: 2006 „
Whilst there are definitely more French bands singing in English these days, it seems the better ones tend to still sing in French (although that is a great generalisation!), I was therefore pleasantly surprised to find English-singing French artist. There's a distinct romanticism in her voice and you can feel a lot of emotion coming out of the artist.
Where many a modern artist tend to become hysterical and wail a bit too much when it comes to love related songs, Borgeaud keeps her cool and belts out the tune in an enthusiastic yet slightly seductive manner. The lyrics are good, the voice is perfect and the music a stunning combination of jazz and blues adds a grain of grittyness to the tracks.
It's not that common that I get worked up about a female artist as I find the contemporary jazz or female folk acts extremely bland, this girl sounds like an old-fashioned singer though and her character comes through powerfully in numerous songs.
This is a must have album for fans of jazz or blues, definitely one of the best contemporary artists in these genres that I have come across in recent times.
The album can be bought as an mp3 download from Amazon for £3.99, so be sure to pick up this cracking debut!
