A distinctive polished sound with lyrics that are still valid

This was THE THE's second album - but was more commercial and succesful. It was originally released in 1983 but has recently been re-packaged and remastered.

The tracks have a strong beat and guitar line. Each song is distinctive in its own right. My personal faourite has to be "This is the Day" - the lyrics are so poetic and all about regret and how things can change if you want them to - well that's how I interpret it anyway. the thing I love on this track is the accordian style piano which is such a key part of the tune.

If you liked Just Jack I think you would probably like this album becuse there are a number of tracks which show the same type of quirky interpretations.

Matt Johnson (who is The The) has a really distinctive voice which can be a little rough at times but this does give the tracks an almost industrial feel at times

This CD is a total remake of the original vinyl and has had no extra tracks added to it - therefore it is really short at only 40 minutes or so.

I really like this album and I really don't think it has dated too much - becuse it isn't too electro-pop and many of the lyrics are as valid today as they were 25 years ago, when this album was first written!!!
