      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      disco fuelled funky house

      I got into The Shapeshifters after the release of the number one hit 'Lola's Theme.' I was hoping they were going to be more than a one trick pony though...

      Who are they:

      UK based dance duo, Simon and Max. They work with guest vocalists to create commercial and credible house music with a funky edge.

      On this album:

      You get the huge number one hit 'Lola's Theme.' This uses a sample to great effect, giving the track a seventies throwback disco vibe. The female vocals are done with vigour and style by Cookie. She seems to be really getting into the flavour of the chorus and pulls it off brilliantly.

      Highlights:

      I recommend dipping into 'Back To Basics' which is a surefire funky crowd pleaser. A chorus stronger than the verses, but an energetic vocal and a superb bassline make this a compulsive house number. 'Sensitivity' is carried off with the right level of sensitivity, a fruity disco beat and vocals which call to mind Shannon. It has a great guitar hook and builds to an uplifting chorus.

      Overall:

      This an album for those who like their dance music with some charisma. Twelve tracks should keep you busy for a while. Listen to this if you like The Freemasons.

      === The Shapeshifters - Sound Advice ===

      The Shapeshifters are a group from the United Kingdom who sing electronic sounding music , House and Soul. There are two artists in the group who are Max Reich and Simon Marlin. Max Reich is the singer of the group where as Simon Marlin is the DJ who supplies the group with the electronic sounding...

      The Shapeshifters are also quite well known in America where they perform under the name Shape:UK as there is another group with the same name located in Los Angleles, California...

      The Shapeshifters have three successful albums -

      " House Groove " which was released in the year 2004...
      " House Groove Volume 2. , which is the sequal to the former House Groove album , released in 2005...

      and finally

      " Sound Advice" which was released in 2006 , and this is the wonderful album i am reveiwing!!!...

      === The Album Track's ===

      ===Track Number 1 - " You Never Know"...===

      This track is a fairly slow track but it has very strong lyrics. The amazing voice of Max Reich makes the listen even more special , as the vocals in this song is very smooth and sweet. Never any bad points in the vocalism of the song. The echo in the background of the song really add's to the thought - provoking effect to the lyrics. The instruments used in this song is one simple synthesizer which is used by Simon Marlin very impressively...

      The most memorable lyrics of the song are

      " Today's Lies
      Yesterday's forgotten tears have all been dried"...

      These lyrics are so effective as it shows just how much emotion has been put into the song and how the world inside the song is...

      This song always reminds me of my auntie who has died even though it is about relationships.
      It reminds me because of the lyrics " You Never Know" , you never know when or who will die..
      I always thought my auntie would live for a longer time but she didn't...
      " Today's Lies" this part of the lyrics made me think about the people who say " It Will Be Ok" , i wasn't ok , i still ry over her now!!!...

      " Yesterday's forgotten tears have all been dried" These lyrics make me think about how i try to civer up my tears from the past and my emotions , but i just can't!!!...

      Overall , i would award this song a 8/10. It brings back some sad memories , but the lyrcis are very strong throughtout the track and Maxe's voice is very powerful and releaxed through the track aswell...
      This track is a definite must listen to as i feel even though it is a more depressing song , it is very relaxing to listen to aswell...
      4.38 Minutes...

      ===Track Number 2 - " Sensitivity"...===

      This track has a classical music sound to open it up , and it gradually becomes faster. Simon Marlin hits the 1 2 3 4 and on comes the speed and the house music feeling...

      The track begins with a keyboard and the synthesizer sounding instrumental background and then on comes on the lyrics...

      " All I Want
      Is What You Got
      You Got Sensitivity"

      These lyrics in this part of the chorus reminds me of my friend who was so sensitive. I sang part of this song to her once and she totally agreed that she was too sensitive. It's a very funny story , but sometimes sensitivity can be good like it is in the song to show the artists feelings , and sometimes it can be fairly over the top...

      Overall , this song will be awarded a 5/10. I didn't like this song too much as i thought that the lyrics could have been a little more interesting like the rest of the tracks on the album.
      This song isn't a track that i would listen to often...
      4.57 minutes...

      ===Track Number 3 - " Lola's Theme"...===

      This song is my most favourite on the album. When i first heard it on a music video i knew i wanted the album or to download the song. I couldn't think what the song was called and i tried to find out. I bought the album and when i got to the third track i knew it was one of my favourites!!!...

      " I'm A Different Person
      Turn The World Around"...

      This is the chorus and the more memorable lyrics of the song...

      This song always reminds me of how i have changed over the years.
      " I'm A Different Person"...

      I really think this song is a brilliant one to listen to and is quite an enjoyable track for anyone. The song is quite a fast proper house music song which i adore!!!...

      Overall , i will award this song with a 9/10. I love the lyrics to the song and the vocals and the instrumental. The instruments used in the song are the Piano which is used mainly at the start of the track. The trumpet which is also used at the start, and the rest of the song is accompanied by the synthesizer , just like on the music video for this song!!!...

      This is a definite must listener as i really enjoy this song no matter what mood i'm in. It either put's me in a good mood or just makes me smile a little , fantastic track!!!...
      5.35... A good old long track!!!...

      ===Track Number 4 - Incredible===

      The start of this song sounds like it came from a reggae background. As you journey further into the song , you begin to hear the more house music genre. The vocals in this are very good. There are high and low notes which are sang superbly. My most favourite lyrics in the song are...

      " We all need comfort when times are hard
      Come on and hide away
      There's no pretense here..."

      This part of the song reminds me of how we need to have comfort at difficult times , like when my pet dog passed away i just wanted to get away from everyone who asked if i was ok , i just couldn't handle it.
      The lyrics in this song are quite thought-provoking and they are very well sang...

      Overall , this song will be awarded 6/10. I feel that the lyrics are quite good and the insturments and the synthesizer are used brilliantly , but it just doesn't have the same feeling as some of the other tracks on the album...
      5.14 minutes!!!...

      === Track Number 5 - " Really Feel"===

      The start of this track introduced with a back ting,ing synthesizer effect. It starts of with a slow speed of music and as the music progresses , it speeds up just waiting for the lyrics to enter. When the lyrics come into the track " Really Feel" is mostly what is sang for the whole song , the echoing effect and the electronic sounding techniques really get me in a relaxed mood. There are no lyrics exept " How you really feel" which can get very boring for some , but i love listening to the instruments in the background which in this song is Simon Marlin's time to shine!!!....

      Overall , this song will be awarded 6/10. There is hardly any singing vocals in this song but the instruments played by Simon Marlin sure do prove how good they and he really are!!!...
      This is a good relaxing song which gives you a little tingling sensation up your spine , well it does to me anyway and maybe you can experience the thrill to!!!...

      === Track Number 6 - " Over Me"...

      This song starts of like the last. It is slow and does not use any vocals for around a minute and a half , but then the wonderful voice of Max Reich comes in. The vocals in this song are very soft and sweet. The whole of the song is a slow song which is what i like about it and the fact that it has great lyrics. Later on in the song Maxe's voice goes higher and faster ...

      " C'mon Now Let's Get Down Down Down Now"

      Just this small part of the chorus impresses me with the wonderful voice it joins with. Max Reich's vocals in this track is very unique to the other songs, as it has more of a pop sounding tone than a soual or house sounding tone. The song also sounds like a 90's song which was the dawn of house music...

      Overall , this song will be awarded a 7/10. There are very good lyrics and a duet from another soul artist which adds to the magic. I do feel however that their could have been a little more instrumental input to the song which would have boosted the rate it has been gived...
      This is a good song but not the best on the album...
      5.12 , another long one!!!...

      ===Track Number 7 - " If In Doubt , Go Out ! "...===

      This song starts of with a slow to a fast sounding electronic synthesizer effect. When we get about a minutes worth into the song , more effects are added from the instrumental backgrounding by Simon Marlin which again gives me that tingling sensation running up my spine...

      Sadly , there are no lyrics at all in this song which can be either good or bad as it shows how amazing the Shapeshifters instrumental is , and the singing voice of Max Reich could have went well with the instrumental of the song...

      Overall , this song get's an 8/10. I really like this song because of the backing used in it. I admit that lyrics would have suited the song more , but still i like this track...

      Maybe you will like this song , I know i do....
      Maybe you like it better with lyrics?
      5.06, another long one!!!...

      === Track Number 8 - Back To Basics===

      The start of this song sounds similar to the great " Lola's Theme".
      Lot's of good beats are included in this song , but the lyrics don't start until a minute of the song. When the lyrics enter , back comes the great voice of Max Reich.

      " Bring It Back To Basics
      You and i will make it right"

      Those lyrics are a small chunk of the chorus. This song is a very enjoyable track with fast beats and slow beats combined into the song...

      Overall , this song will be awarded an 8/10. I really enjoyed listening to the lyrics in this song and the backing was brilliant aswell...
      It sounds quite similar to Lola's theme which is my most favourite track on the album so i do like this song!!!...

      This is a definite must listen to!!!...
      This song runs for 5.27 minutes , so a long decent track!...

      === Track Number 9 - Route One ===

      This track starts of with the proper club beat. Again the synthesizer is brought in straight away once again and as there are no vocals apart from a few breaths and hey's and ho's , there aren't any lyrics , and at this point , just hearing the backing and no lyrics is getting rather boring. Unlike the other songs i don't get that feeling up my spine as i feel this track is quite a flat song...

      Overall , this song is getting a 3/10. There are no vocals exept a few useless breaths and shouts but that is just about it!!!...
      The synthesizer is very flat in this song which doesn't really add to the other expectation's like the other's...

      I wouldn't suggest this song too much as it get's very boring without any lyrics...

      Thankfully , this song is only 3.53 minutes long , the shortest on the album thank goodness!!!...

      === Track Number 10 - Little Green Men ===

      This track is another with no lyrics. I do like this song however as it makes me think of a battle of some sort for some reason. You may think the track is a happy sounding tune but i think that it is quite a sad sounding track...

      Overall , this song will be awarded 6/10. I love how the synthesizer is used in this song ith all it's different effects. I think if there were lyrics in the song it would be a great track because the backing is wonderful...
      This song lasts for 4.53 minutes...

      === Track 11 - Beautiful Heartache ===

      This track is completely different to the rest. The vocals at the start are very different to the other songs as the voice doesn't sound much like Max Reich's at all. There is a great performance by the synthesizer in this song which takes care of all the backing in this song which highly impresses me!!!...

      " It's A Beautiful Heartache
      I Can See It In Your Eyes"

      This is the main part of the chorus of the song of few lyrics. It is a very thought - provoking song even though the lyrics are slim , it still puts me in a cheery sort of mood!!!!...

      Overall , this song will be awarded 6/10. 6 is quite high for just a mainly instrumental song but i feel that the backing is wonderful in this song and that is why the rating is higher in this track!!!...

      === Track Number 12 - Instead Of Falling ===

      This song has that elctronic sound at the beggining which is my most favourite music effect for some reason. It is just an original sound...

      The lyrics in this song are very good and this song is a great way to end a good album.
      The most memorable lyrics in the song is the chorus...

      " Instead of falling in love
      I just fall
      Instead of falling in love
      I just fall
      Instead of falling in love
      I just fall
      Your name to en empty ear
      As you disappear"...

      These lyrics remind me of when i had someone close to me who i was in love with , who moved away when i needed them the most , i kept wishing that they would come back but they didn't...

      This song has a sort of vocal indian touch to it. It reminds me of the kind of music you would get from K - Jah radio from one of the Grand Theft Auto Games. Strange but it sounds indian...

      Overall , this song will be awarded 5/10. The lyrics in this song are very strong , but it just doesn't have the pure Shapeshifters sound to it. The instrumental is very different and the vocals sound completely different. It can be a good or a bad way to end the album in anyone's opinion , but in mine it is a bad move...

      This song runs for 6.41 minutes , the longest on the album!!!...

      === My Opinion ===

      In my own opinion , when i first heard Lola's theme play on Television , i knew that i had to buy this album. I purchased it from amazon , and boy was i pleased with it. Many od the tracks are great but I feel that some need deperate lyrics to join with the great backing effects. I alwways thought that Max Reich had a great voice which should be used in nearly all of the songs...
      I think that The Shapeshifters sound quite like Booty Luv. They are both House and Soul music vocalist's and DJ's who produce brilliant house music...

      === The Vocals ===

      The vocals in this song are very good. The voice of Max Reich changes throughout the album which i feel is very unique. I love the voice as it has such a smooth quality , that i think all of the songs need!!!...

      === The Instrumental/Backing ===

      The Instrumental of this album is quite impressive. Most of the time the backing is supported by the synthesizer Simon Marlin uses which has so many different sounds and effects that you just wouldn't belive unless you listen to this fantastic album!!!...

      === Why Buy The Album ===

      Well if you are a fan of The Shapeshifters , or if you are a big fan of house music , then this album is a great compliment to add to your CD collection!!!...
      You may even be trying out something new , and i may suggest that this album could do the trick to get you in the mood and the world of house music!!!...

      Thank you for reading, hope this helped!!!...
