This is my 3rd review on a Sounds from a Bygone Age Volume. This one is Volume 5 and it features Gabi Lunca and her band. She was a Romanian gypsy from Varbilau, a small town to the north of Bucharest. Starting off playing at private parties like the majority of mahala musicians, her charm and exquisite vocals soon made her a firm favourite not just with normal Romanians but with the leader at the time Ceaucescu. It's not hard to see why she was popular, with a friendly face and a lot of charm and an excellent voice, she is everything that modern pop stars are not!
