Let's Kill Saturday Night - Robbie Fulks
by cswann - written on 07/10/00 (Useful, 45 readings)
Rating:
is quite like Dwight Yoakam. Then "Little King" is loud country rock, a la Steve Earle. But there's also atmospheric folk ("Bethelridge"), and many hints of the alternative punky style of old. On the duet with Lucinda Williams, "Pretty Little Poison," Fulks sounds like John Lennon and the distorted guitar sounds quite beautiful. "She Must Think That I Like Poetry," is another Beatles-y pop song, but also would not be out of place on a Marshall Crenshaw album. Just great powerpop. ...
