Advantages: Excellent one off live recordings.
Disadvantages: None.
Believe it or not, the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley gave over 1000 live performances between 1970 and his early death in 1977. Most of these performances included the same tracks because Elvis had both become bored with performing so often and he had also began to forget the words on stage, so sticking to the same songs helped eradicate this.
Although the songs were often the same, the performances were often very different as sometimes Elvis would be right up for it whilst others he was very lethargic. The Elvis specialist record label FTD have done their very best to bring together a collection of the best performances from these shows and marketed them in this album, known as "Southern Nights".
A lot of the songs on this album appear on many of Elvis`s other albums but they do not appear as they sound on here. This album has some of the most amazing live recordings on it, none more so than the fabulous version of "big boss man".
Other favourites of mine from this album are, "little darlin, bridge over troubled water and I cant stop loving you" but to be honest the whole album is brilliant in my opinion and it really is another must have collection for all true fans of the work of the king of rock and roll.
