Psalm 69 - Ministry
Psalm of the industrial revolution (495 words)by - written on 07/03/01
Rating:
Eat Itself as some of the pioneers for industrial music. One band Reznor always credited as an influence and force was the band Ministry. Since 1981, Ministry was led by singer Al Jourgensen and later became a partnership with bassist Paul Barker. Since the early 80s, Ministry would put out influential records that would help bridge the genre of hard rock with heavy drum machine beats and heavy synthesizers. With their 1992 effort "Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and Suck Eggs", Ministry would show how powerful they were as a musical force. "Psalm 69" is an album full of metal guitar crunches, powerful beats, and heavy synthesizer samples. The ...

Twitch - Ministry
by Ian Proudfoot - written on 30/11/00 (Very useful, 98 readings)
Rating:
Before Ministry turned into the cyber metal gods they are to day, Ministry had been a rather dubious Electro-pop band more Howard Jones than Depeche Mode. The album that was released under that incarnation With Sympathy is an embarrassing stain that Al Jourgensen has tried to remove through out his musical career. Twitch was Al’s first attempt to distance himself from the new romantic image he has so successfully portrayed on his debut release. The over-riding influence on Twitch is the sound of the then new and underground European Electronic Body Music scene, and in particular Front 242. A band that Al had began to collaborate with on the Revolting Cocks side ...

Twitch - Ministry
by Jay Pendragon - written on 25/10/00 (Useful, 74 readings)
Rating:
the last melodically-inclined Ministry record, as each successive LP became more inaccessible and noisy to the point of being ridiculous. Songs such as the classic 'We Believe' and 'Angel' go straight for the jugular, and definitely get things going on the dancefloor. There are some industrial elements which ...
