Spice - Spice Girls
Advantages: Good pop bad
Disadvantages: Debut wasn't as good as it shud've been
The Spice Girls burst onto the scene in 1996 and their success was phenomenal. They are the biggest girlband that the UK has ever produced having all but two of their singles reach number 1 in the charts. Each Spice Girl had their own personality. Their first album 'Spice' was released in 1996 and featured 10 songs. Here is a track by track review.
'Wannabe' - The first single. You'll either love it or hate it. It mainly feautres the vocals of Mel B and Geri. This song also reached number 1 in America. 9/10.
'Say You''ll Be There' - The second single. When they released this, that was the time I finally got on board the Spice Girls bandwagon. I saw the 'making of' the video to this song and it intruiged me. It is the perfect 90's pop song and I don't think any thing ever topped this. 10/10.
'2 Become 1' - The third single. A nice ballad that they releaed for Xmas and was the first in their trio of Xmas number 1's. To me, it's the best Xmas Numbe 1 of the nineties and to this day, one of their most popular songs. 10/10.
'Love Thing' - Originally meant to be their debut single 'Love Thing' mixes pop and R&B. It's a cool 90's track. Great bit from Victoria on here and maybe if they had released this then she would not have been lknown as the Spice Girl that didnt' sing much. 9/10.
'Last Time Love' - A more R&B themed track. Not as instant as the first two tracks but still a good song. Would never have worked as a single though. 6/10.
'Mama' - Was released on Mothers Day. A good slow 'feel good' song, declaring love for their mothers. Nothing wrong with this song but it seems 'forgotton' over the years. 9/10.
'Who Do You Think You Are' - Comic relife single. The second most (after 'Wannabe') Poppiest song on the album. Like the first single, you will love it or hate it, but lets not forget that fantastic 'Brits' performance in 1997. 8/10.
'Something Kinda Funny' - Another R&B/Pop tinged track. Not a bad song. Catchy, mellow and funky. 8/10.
'Naked' - I have never understood the appeal of this song. The only decent bit is when Mel C starts singing. 6/10.
'If You Cant' Dance' - I have always disliked this song. Can't really say much more about it 4/10.
