Perhaps one of the forgotten Indie bands of the time Space were better known for a couple of hit singles more than anything. The Liverpool Indie kids burst onto the scene in the mid 90’s with the instant hit “Female Of The Species” taken from this album, Spiders. Of course the mid 90’s was a real growth period for Indie and as well as the number of new bands in the same genre, Space like many others found it hard to break the pop stranglehold on the Charts. Although in the eyes of most they will be seen as one hit wonders Space actually have two rather decent albums to their name. With a range of influences over their music from The Who to The Happy Mondays ... Read the complete review

Space are, or should I say, were an indie band from Liverpool who rose to the public's attention during the downturn of the Britrock movement in the mid 1990s and released two albums. This one, 'Spiders' being their debut. The band achieved notoriety due to their quirky lyrics and gritty song topics although their success was somewhat short-lived due to issues within the group and financial trouble. Spiders was a well-recieved album with 4 UK Top 20 hits and the album itself peaked at number 5 in the album charts and eventually went Platinum. For an album to 'go platinum' in the UK it must achieve overf 300,000 sales so the album is not without it's ... Read the complete review

This fabulous debut from the cheeky scoucers, Space, deserves your money! Despite me being ripped off for paying £15, I certainly don't regret the purchase. A friend recommended this album to me. I said I hadn't heard of them, and then he pointed out to me that Female of the Species (In Austin Powers) was by them! Then when watching the film Shooting Fish, I discovered that the fantastic theme (Me & You Vs The World) was them as well. Then I managed to hear a couple others. So obviously, I knew I'd like this album... I didn't think I'd find myself rating 4* with high recommendations! I have to say, this album is really under-rated. Imagine old ... I think that this album was massively underrated. In short, it is funny, cheerful, macabre and amazingly catchy. i have introduced all of my friends to Space through this album (see Spacegirl's website @ http://zip.to/spacezone) I loved Tin Planet and I am waiting for their next album which is out soon! Everyone in the world seems to know Female of the Species (it was on the Impulse ad with the gay bloke and comedy movie Shooting Fish) and it is probably the best song on the album. It also includes the singles Dark Clouds, Meighbourhood (also on Shooting Fish) and Me and You v. the World. If you liked any of these songs, get this album. My personal favourite ... This should of been a number 1 album! The songs on this album are so soo good. They are just completely mad, and off the cuff which is very refreshing, rather than songs about dreary existence, songs about someones mad Neighbourhood are good to hear. They seem like a cross between Madness, and a rock band. Nearly all of the album is good songs but those that stand out most are Me and You Vs The World, Neighbourhood, Mister Pshyco and Dark Clouds. Buy this today! ... Read the complete review
