Spirit - Leona Lewis
Advantages: an amazing album, great songs, perfect vocals, powerful
Some of you may remember Leona Lewis as one of the previous winners of X-Factor, probably the only winner who has actullay gone on to be something and has done really well for herself recently.
Her first album, which she released in 2007, is called Spirit.
Leona Lewis is known her for beautiful, powerful voice and beautiful songs, and although I am a metal and rock fan, when I heard this album, I could not help but like it, with it's lovely melodies, soft ballads and strong vocals, there is not a lot to hate on this album.
The first song on this album is called Bleeding Love, and it is one her biggest hits. She released this as a single around the same time the album was released and it is a beautiful song with such lovely lyrics and the power of Leonas voice is truly amazing. The tune to the song is melodic and calming, with some great beats behind it. One of the best songs on the album, and not one to be missed.
The second song is called Whatever It Takes, and this is a slightly more upbeat track in comparison to the first one on the album. It is a good song, with a nice beat and it is very catchy. One of those songs you can not help but sing a long to, and it always makes me smile, no matter what. A nice tune with perfectly matched lyrics.
Thirdly we have a track called Homeless. This is a song almost in the style of piano lounge music, with a soft tune played out on a piano, giving the song an acoustic feel to it. It is a sweet, sad song, with some amazing vocal ranges and it almost brings a tear to my eye when I listen to it. You can really hear the vocal skills of Leona in this song.
The fourth track is one called Better In Time. This song was released as a single and did quite well in the charts. This song is basically about a relationship that has ended, and how she is feeling about it, as well as how she knows she will heal from it in time. This is in a nice track, and is among my favourites on the album. It is has a nice relaxed feel to it, but without being so relaxed you don't take it seriously. Even on this track you can hear Leona's vocal skills and I think this is a great catchy tune for the summer.
The fifth track is Yesterday. This is another upbeat tune, with a real nice lyric set and a great beat. It is quite a simple song, yet it works really well and it is quite enjoyable. You can tell a lot of thought went into the lyrics for this track, as they all work so well together. This song just flows along nicely, and is so smooth to listen to.
The sixth track is called Take A Bow and it is my favourite song on this album. This song is about the end of a bad relationship, and why she is glad to be rid of the other person. It is a powerful song, with amazingly powerful vocals. The lyrics are strong and beautiful with real emotion behind them, and the tune behind the lyrics are just beautiful too. This song truly impresses me, and I do not think anything else on this album is as great as this track.
The seventh song on this album is entitled I Will Be, and this really is just a lovely song, with emotional lyrics and powerful emotions. It is sung so perfectly, with such wonderful harmony and power. If you are in a sad mood when you listen to this song, you may end up crying.
The eighth song is called Angel, and this is another of the slightly more upbeat tracks on the album. It flows nicely and has some lovely lyrics, with a great beat and it is a catchy tune. It is nice to listen to this one when you just want to relax. One of the less challenging songs from Leona, but you can still hear her talent shine through.
The ninth song is entitled Here I am. This is probably the most chilling and relaxing song on the album, and whilst it is a nice one, with a good piano playing in the tune, it is most likely my least favourite song on the album. It is still a good song, just there is nothing much to it, and I do not find myself able to listen to the whole track before I get just a little bit bored.
The tenth song is called I'm You. This is another one of the more generic songs on the album, which although it is a nice song, it is borderline boring and not one I listen to all the way through. It does have some nice lyrics and a soft tune, but there is nothing special to say about this one.
The eleventh song is called The Best You Never Had. This is another of my favourite tracks on the album, as it is catchy, melodic, powerful and beautiful all at the same time. This one shows a good range of vocal skills again from Leona, and it is one I have played over many a time.
The twelfth song on the album is The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face. This is less of a song, more of a way to show off exactly how talented Leona Lewis really is. Many different vocal ranges in the song show just how amazing her voice really is. This song is really acoustic, and is one you can only listen to now and then or else you do get bored of it quite quickly.
The thirteenth song is called Footprints In The Sand. This is another song which is nice and gentle, with beautiful lyrics and a soft beat. A bit of a generic tune, I think this may be a cover of another song, but I am not 100% sure on this one.
The final track on the album is A Moment Like This. This is the single Leona released when she won the X-Factor and although it is a cover, she has done her version very well, and it is a really moving song. You can hear the power behind her voice, and I think this was a perfect choice to end the album.
A really great album, I believe that most people will like this, purely for talent alone. You can buy this album on Amazon and the price varies between £3.50 and £6.00 depending on which day you are looking. Keep an eye on the price for an awesome bargain on a brilliant album.
5 out of 5 stars from me, 100% recommended to all.
