On paper a manchester based band is always gonna be compared to oasis and it doesnt help with the lead singer also being called liam but i think you will be pleasently suprised with this album. Hailing from manchester and cosisting of four people Liam Fray(vocals/guitar) Michael campbell (backing vocals/drums) David connan morrs(guitar) Mark cuppelo(bass) Make up the courteeners who are an indie rock band formed in 2006. The band have known each other since they was 10 where they attended school togeather. They took influnces from the likes of oasis and morrisery into the sharp blend of indie anthems. I was ... I first got into The Courteeners when a mate at work would not stop singing one of their tunes and i wondered what he was going on about and ignored him at first. He kept singing it loads more so i asked him who it was and he said it was The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever and so i thought i would check the song and the band out. I did this by looking on Itunes and i bought Not Nineteen Forever just on its own and i really liked what i heard and it was the type of music i had been wanting to hear for quite some time as some Indie bands tend to follow the rest of the genre and play it safe but it is really not the case with The Courteeners. I always act with caution when a new band gets hyped up as the next big thing etc. Manchester indie four piece The Courteeners have been described as "the most talked about band in Manchester". And judging by their first three singles - Cavorting, What Took You So Long? and Not Nineteen Forever - which are all included on St Jude, there were encouraging signs. However their debut album doesn't quite cut the mustard. It's not that it's a poor debut, its just that it should have been better. They were even mentioned on Coronation Street by David Platt twice in the space of fifteen minutes. Not many bands can say that they were mentioned during Corrie. On ... Read the complete review

The Courteeners will always be faced with the daunting prospect of filling the shoes of the last massive band to step out of Manchester with a similar sound - the parallels with an early Oasis are unavoidable, from the style of the music to the way Liam Fray chooses to dress and act onstage. However, with songs like "Please Don't" and "Yesterday, Today and Probably Tomorrow", The Courteeners manage to put their own spin on a sound which existed long before Oasis. There is a unique mixture of faster, upbeat songs alongside these slower, melodic songs, with "Not Nineteen Forever" standing out among the middle order. The style of ... Read the complete review
Products similar to St Jude - Courteeners
Ziemia I Slonce - Ankh
Sometimes successful blending of rock instruments with classical folk violin.
Sometimes not.
Sap - Alice in Chains
Some nice acoustic songs to break up the discography, and some notable guest performers.
Too rooted in blues and repetition to be of real interest.
Reptile Ride - Amoral
Competent melodic death metal without the rubbish bits.
Rather bland all the same.
Pristine In Bondage - Amaran
Powerful, good ol' fashioned metal. With a woman.
Occasionally uninspired.
Monolith - Amebix
Insight into death metal's beginnings.
Too firmly rooted in the past.
Divinity - Altaria
High quality pop power metal with a broad appeal.
Too repetitive, simplistic and fruity for more seasoned metal fans.
Devour, Rise And Take Flight - Android Lust
Nice vocals, and some interesting electronic touches.
The best songs steal from Nine Inch Nails, and the worst are just dull.
Det Glemte Riket - Ancient
Cost-effective way of owning previously rare material.
Original material is a bit disappointing.
Andromeda Unchained - Anubis Gate
High quality and still accessible outer-space prog metal.
Some songs are too similar, and it lacks originality.
Alice In Hell - Annihilator
Interesting and different thrash metal.
Bizarreness may obstruct casual listeners.
