... can sometimes kill the mood of a great song. Jealous Girls is a single that reached an apocalyptically dreadful 89 in the UK charts upon its release in 2007. I feel this was massively uncalled for and the track well deserved a higher position. Featuring the same concept as the previous track, the verses appear to be the calming before the storm of the chorus which hosts a compression of action and talented vocals. Standing in the Way of Control is the album that really put The Gossip on the map. Although they have been around since 1999, they are not really classed as a massive band, even after the success of this, their 2006 album. I have very mixed feelings with this as you will find out below. Although I do enjoy most of it, it is the sort of album that could possibly cause many people to turn off before the end is reached. You learn something very important with track one from this album. 'Fire With Fire' opens, and continues with some heavy bass playing. This has to be one of THE albums of recent years. The Gossip are one of the most exciting bands around at the moment. Beth Ditto's voice added to the catchy tunes on this album really make it stand out. Featuring the phenomenal hit and title track, 'Standing In The Way Of Control' sometimes when there is one fantastic song on an album that everyone knows the rest of the songs can be disappointing. Not so here. Every song is given equal gusto from Ditto, and the results are impressive. The brilliant 'Standing In The Way Of Control' is an upbeat tune that makes you want to get on the dancefloor.
