Advantages: Noel and Liam both on vocal duties, they can still do rock’n’roll like the best of

Disadvantages: so called new direction, few predictable tunes

4th Studio album sees a drastic change for the brothers Gallagher, though not on the musical front. First release on their own new record label, and finished hurriedly with Bonehead’s pieces being replaced following his and Guigsy’s departures from the band. The logo has been revamped, there is even more hair and the lads are even having a go at directing their own videos. It’s just a shame the songs couldn’t have been more adventurous as well.

Basically this is your normal Oasis affair but with a few samples and weird noises/effects. That said, this doesn’t necessarily make it bad or all that disappointing. ‘F**king in the bushes’ is a storming instrumental which opens proceedings well. ‘Go let it out’ is simply Oasis by numbers, well the indian drenched meandering pyschedelic rock of ‘Who Feels Love?’ is a refreshing change. ‘Gas Panic’ has the makings of yet another album, whilst ‘Where Did It All Go Wrong’ is a satisfying tune on which Noel’s vocals bare a startling similarity to Paul Weller’s ‘Changing Man’.

The album's ‘Wonderwall’ is the fabulously mournful ‘Sunday Morning Call’. The rest are fairly irrelevant. Liam’s first attempt at songwriting ‘Little James’, about his son, is startlingly poor and then to worsen matters appallingly overproduced. While ‘I Can See A Liar’ is punk gone sad and pathetic.

Nothing truly new, but there isn’t much that is worth skipping. Not a must buy, but certainly worth serious consideration.
