Advantages: Better than 'Be Here Now'
Disadvantages: It isn't great!
The critics were sharpening their knives, waiting for this, Oasis's fourth new studio album. It was never going to be easy, you get so high in the music ladder the only way is down. OK, 'Be Here Now' was crap, but this isn't to bad. Maybe the critics were far to critical when reviewing the album, after all it is actually quite good and listenable. Particularly when you first listen to it.
At least they tried and made the effort to be a little more creative and different, the opening two of 'Fuckin' in the bushes' and the first single 'Go Let it out' use samples, the fisrt time Noel has done this. The producer is different which again, makes the sound of this album a little diiferent. Liam debues his songwriting ability in 'Little James', it's is not great and one of the worst songs on this album. It is obvious that Liam is not re-nowned for his lyric writing, "you live for your toys, even though they make noise", oh no!
There are times when Oasis appear to be at their best, 'Put Yer Money where yer mouth is', 'I can see a liar' contain the rock'n'roll energy that made them what they are. However, these moments are few and far between. The poor experimental 'Who Feels Love', a sort of Stone Roses meets The Beatles type song. Not original, not very good. There is the traditional big ballad sung by Noel("Sunday Morning Call") and a middle of the road type song("Gas Panic!"). These songs are listenable but at the end of the day, aren't brilliant.
Oasis have contrived an average, no risks taken, experimental album. The type of album that becomes very listenable, but just doesn't stand out as a great album. They haven't got to many albums left in them now. It's a case of better luck next time. Oh and take more risks boys!
Noel needs to remember what it was like when they were the biggest band in the world, if he can
. 'Where did it all go wrong?', it didn't it all went right!!!!
