Advantages: Excellent stuff in the best tradition of the Doors
Disadvantages: A bit short
This album was the second offering from the Doors and it continues to build on the springboard created by them from their first album. The trademark Manzarek keyboard sound is still in evidence and Morrison/Kriegers song writing is just as extravagant. A particularly surreal track is Horse Latitudes, which is a maddening collection of sounds describing how horses used to be drowned at sea by the Spanish. There is nothing particularly new in this album and it continues on much like if it was an extension of the original album. A minor complaint is the length of the album which clocks in just under forty minutes, but as dooyoo members know all about, its quality and not quantity that count and in that sense the Doors can rest easily. I f you really enjoyed the first album then I recommend this album because you won’t be disappointed. If you bought the first album and it makes only your occasional listening category then I maybe suggest that you refrain from getting it. Overall though it’s an excellent album and it would make a great introduction to the Doors or extend the pleasure to be gained from the Doors!
