Advantages: Brutal vocals, a grindcore track reminiscent of Nasum or Napalm Death

Disadvantages: Nothing extraordinary happening

Strynchnine.213 is Aborted's 6th album and was released on the Century Media label at the end of June 2008, it has been touted as one of the best albums of the year in the metal genre. Aborted are a band that have intrigued me due to their nationality, I don't know a great deal of Belgian bands and despite being aware of them, I had never really given them much of a listen until now.

The album is very intense and despite powering it's way through some brutal death metal, it is rather technical and regimented, there is no wow factor and it's not particularly wild, the album has very clean production and sounds like Napalm Death on their best behaviour, attending assembly perhaps! Unless you are a fan of technical death metal (and let's be honest there aren't many), it would be hard to see this album breaking in to your top 10 of the year.

Some tracks do have a nice touch, like the sneakiest amount of industrial creeping in to the track The Chyme Congeries or the excellently quick grindcore sound of Avarice of Vilification. It's far from a bad album but it's not really going to set the world alight, considering the low amount of fans this music has something interesting and unique should generally be added to woo listeners, I don't feel they do that.

1. "Carrion" - 1:46
2. "Ophiolatry on a Hemocite Platter" - 4:51
3. "I35" - 3:45
4. "Pestiferous Subterfuge" - 4:24
5. "The Chyme Congeries" - 3:45
6. "A Murmur in Decrepit Wits" - 4:43
7. "Enterrement of an Idol" - 3:24
8. "Hereditary Bane" - 2:49
9. "Avarice of Vilification" - 3:34
10. "The Obfuscate" - 4:09
11. "Slaughtered" - 3:55 (Pantera cover)

Summary: Middle of a road that very few drive on!
