Advantages: Excellent variety, classy

Disadvantages: Woman singing.

This is the first Vanessa Mae album I have bought, so it was a bit of an experiment. I was not to be disappointed. It is also my second attempt at writing opinion about music and it's hard! SO this is my interpretation and hope it's OK!

The album cover has Vanessa with her silent violin. The silent violin is very different in sound to a classical violin as it is much smoother. The album has a variety of tracks which differ in mood, beat and accompanying instruments.

Yantra - Slow, accompanied by vocals and piano. Quite repetitive but not overtaken by the violin.

White Bird - Lively modern beat. This one's got singing in it and its very difficult to tell what the woman is singing about. There is a mixture of plucking and bow playing of the violin. There is an impressive violin solo in the middle. I'm not too keen on this one because I didn't like the singing.

Picante - Latin American Beat, you could dance to this one. It's very lively. Excellent violin and sythesizer beat.

Destiny - This was my favourite track and I could listen to it over and over again. Strong, modern, racy beat. Brilliant violin playing and this track is almost like dance music, but much more classy. Good pumping drum beat and the synthesizers are brilliant. It has a feel good factor.

Night Flight - It sounds like it telling a sad story. Reaches very high notes on the violin, but is played beautifully. The piano and synthesizers add to the mood. Very smooth and relaxing as the music draws you in. The violin duet is amazing.

Clear Like Ice - Slow beat with bursts of synthesizers. Violin tune is smooth, relaxing and mysterious. There are some good synthesizer effects, but don't play it in the car because it sounds like sirens approaching!

Laughing Buddha - Very fast paced and incredibly lively. Again, this one's a bit like dance music. Strong beat and the violin alternates
between fast and slow. Some vocal accompaniments and electrical guitar. Modern sounding and amazing she can play that fast. The beat, however, is slightly overpowering.

Pasha - Another Lating American sounding one. Good beat and a very sweet violin piece. Its also like it's telling a story...a build up to something happening/argument. Very dramatic!

Solace - Classical guitar accompanies the violin which plays a rather sad, slow and wistful tune. Good for those moments of self-pity, helps you have a good cry. It's very high!

Love Is Only A Game - Lighthearted singing. Singing, again hard to understand what she is singing about! Violin is mainly background music. A strange love song. Lively, happy beat with a lively violin solo in the middle.

Deep South - Fast beat, modern. Not too keen, a bit non descript really.

Jamais - This one's in a foreign language (french?!). Nice violin accompaniment with the singing. Although not too keen on this woman's singing. Violin sounds almost orchestral.

Overall, a good album, especially for background or chilling out music. The only thing I think it could od without is the singing. The violin is brilliant on its own.

I have never listened to her music before but seen her playing on T.V last night and she looked stunning. Thats why i have taken a sudden interest in looking her name up on the net. Well done, i really couldn't think of much to say on an album myself so i applaud you.
