Advantages: A strong collection of tracks
Disadvantages: The Way Old Friend Do ~ a bit weak
"Arrival" was released in 1980 & originally featured 10 tracks by the group.
01) Super Trouper
02) The Winner Takes It All
03) On And On And On
04) Andante Andante
05) Me And I
06) Happy New Year
07) Our Last Summer
08) The Piper
09) Lay All Your Love On Me
10) The Way Old Friends Do
The 1997 remastered version of the album saw the addition of three more tracks:- 1979 UK number three hit Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight), Elaine (the UK b-side to The Winner Takes It All) and Put On Your White Sombrero which had originally been intended to be on the album but which had been taken off rather late in the day & replaced instead by Super Trouper. Later versions of the album saw Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! removed & moved to the Voulez Vous album instead.
The album features two UK 1980 number ones hits:- The Winner Takes It All & Super Trouper as well as Lay All Your Love On Me which was released in 1981 and was only available on a 12" only format. It was, at the time, the highest charting 12" in the UK, making number seven.
Super Trouper is arguably the group's finest album containing the superb "The Winner Takes It All" as well as a number of other tracks which stand up well in their own right. Our Last Summer is a great reflective track, detailing a woman's memories of a romance she had in Paris, whilst Andante Andante & Happy New Year also see the group in a reflective mood. For those people wanting something a bit "rockier" there's Me And I, Lay All Your Love On Me & On And On & On. The Piper is a good track as well but The Way Old Friends Do is a tad disappointing
Summary: Abba's best album
