Advantages: Good music
Disadvantages: Slower pace
After quite liking "Moving" and "Pumping On Your Stereo", I thought I'd give Supergrass' self-titled album a go. Half expecting to take it back, I got a nice surprise when I found I liked it and subsequently went out and bought it's predecessors "I Should Coco" and "In It For The Money". After listening to the other two, I realised that Supergrass actually mellowed out a lot with "Supergrass". After the fast and furious pace of the other two albums, I could see how it might not appeal to other fans. I think it's a brilliant album personally, cleverly thought out. It starts with "Moving", a track everyone will know. With it's unique verse, the part where it speeds up a bit is welcome. A fantastic song and a good one to start with. Track 2, "Your Love" is a bit strange. I'm not keen on it to be honest. The melody's a bit odd and it's just a generally uninteresting song. "What Went Wrong In Your Head" is a brilliant track. A good melody and well sung lyrics make it a joy to listen to. The very popular "Mary" is the seventh track. A classic, with the well know "ayayay" it is a good track which everyone can sing along to. With plenty of energy it is a lively song to listen to. The last track "Mama and Papa" is quite out of character for Supergrass. On my first hearing I wasn't too bothered, but on further listening, I decided it was a beautiful song with touching lyrics. It is slow so fans keen on the old stuff probably won't agree, but give it a try. Admitttedly after buying the two previous albums, I decided I preferred Supergrass' old style more than the new one. I still think this is good album though, with some real top quality material. It is a new path for Supergrass though, so if you like the old stuff, prepare to be a little disappointed.

- 16/08/01 OOOOOOOOH Look, a discussion! ;)
I think that it is good BECAUSE they try different things, as they did in In It For the Money. If they dont expand and try different things, they will be Status Quo. |

- 10/08/01 I agree it's not as good as In It For The Money but I still think it's good. |

- 09/08/01 I said that it was bad in relative terms. It's not bad in the way that say...Coldplay or Wheatus are bad. It's bad compared to ITFTM. |
