Supergrass - Supergrass

Supergrass' eponymous album sees a return to the roots as shown in their original album I Should Coco. Perhaps this is why it did not sell as many copies as it deserved. Sadly, britpop records are just not selling any more. This is a shame, because this Cd contains some really good tracks.

Take Moving for instance. This is a track that has a mellow smooth undeniably cool part to it, and yet schizophrenically co-exists with a manic funky part. And it is madness that seems to present itself in most of Supergrass' work. Especially in "What went wrong with your head?".

In some respects you can see influences of Queen (the 70s influences have always been well-known of course) with the mad choruses and so on. And yet you always feel, especially with Gaz's vocal, that there's a Mick Jagger just bursting to be set free.

Supergrass also prove their ability to be smooth and soulful with some of the slower tracks on the album, such as Shotover Hill, but you're never far away from another anthem, with tracks like Jesus Came From Outer Space and Punping On Your Stereo stealing the show.

So all in all, if you like your music funky, guitar-led and a touch schizophrenic, this is the album for you, I recommend it highly.
