Advantages: Poppy, friendly, and somewhat memorable
Disadvantages: Disposable and mostly boring; no longevity whatsoever
Now...I'm not a Supergrass fan, let me make that clear! But I got Supergrass' self-titled third album as a present for my birthday last year; someone assumed I'd like it...I have no idea why! So if you're a 'grass fan, my opinion will be invalid to you. Anyway, as you may know, ever since the band's debut album 'I Should Coco' and their hit single 'Alright', the band have been very cheery cheeky chappies with clean white teeth and the like, but by the time they reached their second album they were just 'In It For The Money', so I guess they've run out of drugs then. The band aren't gloomy or depressing however, and on 'Supergrass' we see the band both happy and sad - which is realistic, really. The Bowie 'Rebel Rebel'-esque sounding 'Pumping (or is that humpin'?) On Your Stereo' is a good glam pop gem designed to make you feel happy, complete with a snazzy video for the single. As is the somewhat sad but optimistic opener 'Moving'...Elsewhere the whole album is nice melodic pop, either calm or quite rocky; but very easily boring and disposable *yawn*! Don't deny it Supergrass, you were bored when you made this! The suave 'Beautiful People', the slinky 'Mary', and the gospelly 'Jesus Came From Outta Space' and the stress-relieving 'Born Again' are nice; but that's about it, and that's all I can say about them. The only diverse thing about this album is the bassist singing on closer 'Mama & Papa'. Nice musicianship though. An 'alright' album I suppose, but it's really the same tired old pop song over again; meandering on and on until the band and you fall aslee...zzzzzzzzzzzz!
