Advantages: free :)
Disadvantages: too personal
As always... sorry if something isn't clear on this op... it's caused by my poor english level. I'd received that Music cassette from Dooyoo-spain because I was awared in a prize. I'd received the MC today and I'd listened twice to write an op about it. I'm not an Alanis "fan". I know some of his previous songs, anyway I'd only listened the singles/hits previously. I think that this op will be interesting (I'll try to) 'cos it's done from a "casual listener" of this great artist. Sometimes "fan" opinions are too... positive. I've to say that I'm not a regular cassette litener too... :) we are in the CD era! but anyway it was for free so... let's enjoy it. The Cd-booklet (cassette in this case) is a bit different from the rest of bands/artists: Really long lyrics, every song with different color and font, no pics... It must be obvious that this is an intimist album. There are not many melodies, the power are on the lyrics and the feelings!! The lyrics are a bit confusing and difficult to understand (even more for a non-native english like me). This album have lots of indian influences. 1 Front row In the line of all the album. I can't find a clear melody. 80% of the song is readed more than singed. It's difficult to find the real meaning of this song. Maybe there are different interpretations for this lyric. For me is like a posible ending of a relationship, trying to remember and trying to understand about the lost time with that person and having the feeling that they were incompatible from the beggining. (if there are any other meanings I would love to learn it in the comment section of this opinion). 2 Baba I feel like this song is an ironic (isn't it ironic, don't you think? hehe) version of the sects, but as always I would apreciate any kind of different interpretations of the meaning o
f the song. "i've seen them overlooking god in their own essence". Anyway, this song it's an excelent work of guitars with drums and oriental sounds. Sounds like an indian hymn. 3 Thank U The hit of the LP. Sounds to me like a gratitute about all this things that make her think and meditations that can make you feel better and to decide in a trouble or difficult moment. ( even when you are really down) "... it was the moment I touched down" 4 Are you still mad Singed on piano, this balad talks about things of your behaviour or acts that can make your partner crazy. The sentence "are you still mad" it's used almost in any line of this song (maybe too much for me). bits of the song: "are you still mad I wore the pants most of the time are you still mad that we slept together even after han ended it? of course you are. 5 Sympathetic character: A list of characteristics of his partner that afraid her. I don't really like this song (it makes me headache) :) 6 That I would be good. The best song (for me) of the album. Pretty melody. talks about what is NOT necesary to be good. You only need to want it to be good. Great lyrics and melody. It's incredibly how she put special attention in the last sentence of the song (even is writed in another color "whether with or without you"! great!! 7 The couch. A nice story and great singed. There is (as in other songs of this album) a sentence in another color to put your atention in there. It's the clue of the song. You've to listen it. I don't want to write about the other songs of the LP 'cos I think that only you can know if you like ore not the songs. My op is just to guide you about the global sound of the album. It's not a "comercial" album. It's really personal, maybe TOO personal. I thi
nk that you have to mix both things on an album. I mean, to put some comercial-hits and some other songs that are not as comercial as the singles but that are important for the artist. Thanks to all the people that are helping me with my horrible english. You are really good for me. Thanks!! Happy 2002!!!
