Advantages: Great value for money, There's something for everyone, 18 great tracks
Disadvantages: None, None, None
I bought this album with a voucher I earned with my dooyoo miles.
I bought after reading some great reviews and loving their second album ('The Writings on the Wall').
'Survivor' is Destiny Child's third album and possibly the best they have done so far.
It has 18 great tracks, I have my favourites (I'm sure you do too), but I can honestly say there is not a single track I really dislike.
All the tracks were written or co-produced by Beyonce Knowles (the obvious leader of the band).
Quick Run Through of all the Tracks...
1. Independant Woman (Part 1)
You all will have heard this by now, this track was the last to be released off of their second album ('The Writings on the Wall'). It was the soundtrack for 2000 film 'Charlie's Angels'. It is a kick-ass tune about independance. It proves that us women do not have to rely on our men for money, a house, or whatever- it shows this is a modern world, it encourages young ladies to go out and do it for themselves!
2. Survivor
The track the album was named after. Also been released, it hit the no.1 spot so you must have heard it by now. It is a track written by Beyonce Knowles about the other band members after they split. It shows how after they left, the band picked itself up and recruited Michelle (latest member) and they carried on, sucessfully.
3. Bootylicious
Another song designed to boost the confidence of all women! It shows how all women can be sexy and confident! I personally love this track, it was beaten to the UK no.1 spot by Atomic Kitten's cover of The Bangle's hit 'Eternal Flame'. (Although I was amazed that a song that says the word 'Jelly' so many times could do so well!)
4. Nasty Girl
This song is basically about a slapper. A girl that wears skimpy outfits all the time and in Destiny's Child's opinion, make it hard for all the other women trying to work
for themselves. I did think after hearing this that they don't wear much on stage, but that is a specail occasion I suppose.
5. Fancy
I get the feeling this is also aimed at the former band members. It talks about people trying to steal the others lime-light (although in my opinion Beyonce deprives Kelly and Michelle of theirs). It makes a good track though.
6. Apple Pie A La Mode
Despite the strange name this is actually a great track. It is a bit slower than Bootylicious and Survivor but it still has a good beat and is great if you like singing a long to this type of song.
7. Sexy Daddy
This starts off fast and then slows down, it changes speed without a noticable break and makes this a great track.
8. Perfect Man
As you probably guessed this is about meeting the perfect man. It says how you should make a move as it could be your only chance. Yet another great track.
9. Independant Woman (Part 2)
This is the remix of the song ('Independant Woman (Part 2), I usually skip this track as I prefer listening to Part 1.
10. Happy Face
This song does actually make you feel happier. It's quite a lively track and is bound to put a smile accross yor face. It's great to play if your down about something and need cheering up!
11. Dance With Me
This is quite a lively track too and dancey, as the title suggests.
12. My Heart Still Beats
A solo track featuring, you guessed, Beyonce Knowles. It is extremly slow and not my favourite off of the album.
13. Emotion
This is a slower track, it's quite good, but not my favourite.
14. Brown Eyes
Same with this track, I do like slow R'n'B, but these are drowsy.
15. Dangerously in Love
This is also a slow track, but quite like this one.
16. The Story of Beauty
Another Drowsy one here. Like said, these 'drowsy' tracks are quite good, just not my favou
rite.
17. Gospel Medley
This is like 'Amazing Grace' of the last album. I skip it. I have never heard their first album, but I am getting the image that it is becoming a Destiny's Child tradition to put a gospel song on each album.
18. Outro(DC-3) Thank You
Another song with a beat to it. Basically a thank you to everyone involved.
This is a great album, loads of tracks make it great value for money and ensures there is something for everyone. It is higly recommended!
