The Corrs - Talk on Corners
The Corrs are a band who hail from Ireland. They are made up of four siblings, Jim and his three sisters, Andrea, Sharon and Caroline. I think they have a really unique sound with beautiful beautiful voices. I would describe their music and folk based with lots of meaningful lyrics. They also have quite an Irish based sound as well, on a lot of their songs there is a background Irish rythm which is what I think makes them quite a different type of mainstream band.
What I also love about them is that they all can actually play instruments and to me that is a sing of a true musician and band. They include a lot of different sounds in their songs and I really think this adds depth. For example, some of the instruments they play include the tin whistle, violin, drums, guitar and keyboard. I think it also helps that they are all very good looking. The sisters all look similar with beautiful dark hair and this definitely adds to their success in my opinion.
The Corrs first came onto the scene in 1996. They are actually taking a career break at the moment but I believe one of the sisters (can't remember if it's Sharon or Caroline) has just released a solo album. The first album of theirs that I really got into was Talk on Corners which today is still my favourite album of theirs. They have in total released 5 different albums.
Talk on Corners is their second album and was released in 1997. According to an article I read, Talk on Corners became the UK's #1 selling album in 1998 and eventually went on to sell 2.7 million, making it one of the best selling albums of all time (in the UK). It also tops charts in at least another 17 countries.
I would say probably some of the most recognised song on this album is, "What can I do to Make you love me," as I still hear this being played on the radio all the time. They do a nice cover of Fleetwood Mac's Dreams too but in my opinion is still not as good as the original. This album has quite a lot of love songs on it. The tracks are as follows:
"Only When I Sleep"
"When He's Not Around"
"What Can I Do (To Make You Love Me)"
"I Never Loved You Anyway"
"Don't Say You Love Me"
"Love Gives Love Takes"
"Queen of Hollywood"
"No Good for Me"
