I regularly listen to the album now and still have reactions similar to the ones that I had when I first heard it. That is the thing about the album; you never really get tired or bored of it. My favs have to be Soukoura and Lasidan and of course Diaraby but the whole album really is quite splendid. I've always liked list...more

Rating:

A music teacher at my Uni introduced me to Ali Farka early last year. He played 'Diaraby' and I was left astounded. The song is so atmospheric and visual; it transports you to another place. 'Desert Blues' was the genre he said it belonged to and however stupid this may sound, it was almost like I could smell the desert. There are very few songs which manage to engage and immerse me to such an extent and this is one of them. It's so melodic and harmonious and it's played with such passion and steadfast rhythm. Great new songs, Who said the 80's were bad anyway? Needs a few listensBit if a shock for current Dandy's fans

A very good album that carries on the Runrig sound 30 years after they formed People will be wary about the new lead singer, but needn't be, he really suits the bands sound

No real duff tracks, Progression Dull finisher

Strong, emotive songs None

Classic Rock - 2005

Gary Rossington, Allen Collins. Classics None

The Oath Of Black Blood - Beherit
Historically interesting. Several spring to mind.

Simple Plan - Simple Plan
Some super catchy, hugely fun Pop Punk tracks. A couple of tracks fail to deliver.

Seasons Of Tragedy - Benedictum
Modern heavy metal in the classic style, without sounding dated. Nothing new here.

Outside Inside - Blue Cheer
Heavy Metal - 2008

Final Fantasy - Battle Arrange: The Black Mages - Soundtrack
Fun for Final Fantasy fans who also like rock music. Only for the game's fans, and the concept loses its novelty after a while.

Atomic Arena - Barren Cross
A fine metal performance in the classic style. Suffers from many drawbacks of the eighties.

A Day Of Nights - Battle Of Mice
Emotive and intense post-metal with a great performance from Julie Christmas. Becomes repetitive and a little tedious, causing the effect to diminish.

1919 Eternal - Zakk Wylde and Black Label Society
More Zakk Wylde for modern Ozzy Osbourne fans. All very similar and uninspired.

Drawing Down The Moon - Beherit
Another entertaining early black metal album with classically awful production values. Most songs sound pretty much the same.
