Sugababes - Taller in More Ways

Sugababes are a successful English pop trio from London. The thing that most sticks out in my mind about this group, is that the members have changed consistently over the years. The band line up for this album was Keisha, Heidi and Mutya. I am going to review each track and give it a rating out of 5, so here goes.

1. Push the Button (3.38) 4/5

This is song which will make you want to dance the beat sounds very computerised. It is an easy listening song even though it is a dance song and it is very much a pop song! The chorus is very catchy which makes you want to sing along. I think this song gets your attention and it a good one to start the album off with. The song is about getting a boy's attention and he needs to let her know that he likes her.

2. Gotta Be You (3.40) 3/5

A more r'n'b vibe to this song with a low beat playing in the background. It's another song, which you can dance along to and is a song, which you would chill out to. There seems to be more rapping (which sounds like talking to me) than singing in this song. The chorus doesn't really stand out much and it's not really a very memorable song. The song is about breaking up with someone and they are now badmouthing them.

3. Follow Me Home (3.58) 3/5

A slower paced song where the girls get to show off their voices, which I feel compliment each other's very well. It is a relaxing song to listen to and has a slightly edgy feel to it with the violins playing in the background. It is about life getting you down however they will always be there for them no matter what.

4. Joy Division (3.49) 2/5

Electric guitars open up this song keeping a fast beat and then the all these computerised sounds come in which really ruin the song. I think this song is really mismatched, they are singing high pitched one minute and then not the next it seems all mixed up to me. I don't like this song at all and find myself skipping it all the time. To be honest I don't really get what this song is about I think it may be about someone pursing them even though their advances are not welcome.

5. Red Dress (3.38) 4/5

This is a catchy song, which has a chorus that you will remember after hearing the song only once. There is a trumpet in the chorus, which gives it a great beat and makes it different from their other songs. I like the music to this song and the electric guitar plays throughout with a great beat in the background making you want to dance along. This song is about how a girl manipulates a man to get what she wants but they are sick of doing this and they are going to let the man chase them from now on as they have nothing to lose if he doesn't love them.

6. Ugly (3.51) 5/5

I love this song it is my favourite on the album and is really why I bought this album. It is a simple song with mostly just the guitar playing. Once you run into the chorus there is a steady beat from the drums and a piano playing. It all sounds great mixed together. The girls get to show off their voices and tell their little story about their lives. It is a song, which makes you think and it, sends out a great message. It is one of them songs, which is sure to get your singing along and is slow paced. It is about people talking about other people and calling them names and letting you know that it does affect people and they never forget it. The message being sent out is that people are all the same and no-one is ugly.

7. It Ain't Easy (3.05) 1/5

An edgy song with a computerised sound to it and it is quite fast paced. This track is not one of my favourites in face you could easily miss this one off. The chorus is annoying with them saying 'It ain't easy' over and over again. A song which is about it not being easy to be with them however it just isn't listening to this song full stop!

8. Bruised (3.04) 2/5

An eerie start to this song, which goes into a more, relaxed funky sound. This track is about an abusive relationship and the music reflects this very well. Even so I don't really like the sound it sounds a bit creepy and annoying for me.

9. Obsession (3.51) 2/5

The start of this song sounds like an old computer game being played. It is a pop song but not a very good one at that. It is an edgy song, which just doesn't hold my attention I skip this one very often. It is about being obsessed with someone.

10. Ace Reject (4.16) 3/5

This is another unmemorable song, which isn't up to much. It just sounds like all the rest really and is not different. By this stage I actually am getting bored listening to the album. All the good songs are at the start. It is about not being able to let someone go they keep breaking up and getting back together.

11. Better (3.45) 4/5

This song is slightly better than the last it has a more catchy chorus. Within the chorus they are singing 'Oh ee ohh oohh' it sounds like monkeys making noise it's quite funny to listen to. It's a track, which is easy listening and gets your attention more than other tracks. This track sends out a good message about you sorting your life out yourself. You need to just be yourself, as this will make you stronger.

12. 2 Hearts (4.55) 3/5

Two hearts is about two people being together and how they need each other. It is an alright song but again sounds like the others.

**OVERALL**

I think this album is a let down as at the start it promises so much and the further you listen into the album really the more disappointing it is. The strong tracks are very good and I really enjoy listening to them however the rest is just album fillers and bad ones at that. This cd costs £2.99 from www.play.com and is good value at that price. In general the first half of the album is great however the second half is really bad. I really like this band and think the album is worth a listen to but only a few songs within the album the rest you can skip like I do!
