Tell it like it really is!

It has to be said that I'm a little bit pre-judgemental when it comes to artists names and the name Stephanie McKay just sounded like someone who had got success off the back of a reality tv programme and was coming out with her first album of bland pop soul.

That's not really the case, Stephanie McKay is from the Bronx in New York has made it through auditioning for various bands and dancing acts over the years.

Soul for me is a bit of a minefield as I'm a bit allergic to high pitch wailing and it's something that occurs quite often in this genre. Stephanie McKay has a particularly whingey sounding voice and pulls out the typical soul topics - well, mostly love. The music itself is ok and the backing vocals are fine, infact they are much nicer than McKay's in your face sound.

We see a different type of song on "Jackson Avenue", a more modern pop sound with male vocals added and some electronic beats thrown in, McKay's voice isn't as jarring on this track and she goes for a more restrained Sugababesesque sound, the only problem is that the lyrics are as boring as hell and I can't ever see it being a succesful pop song.

Apart from teenage girls, I can't really see how anyone is going to be enamoured with this album. I was able to listen to the whole thing just about but it's definitely not something that's worth my time listening to again.
