THAT'S THE WAY IT IS is the soundtrack album for the best Elvis movie ever made. Rather than being a fictional film, which Elvis had become increasingly tired of, this film is a representation of his Las Vegas shows of summer 1970. This was a time when Elvis was revitalised, looking fantastic, and singing some of the best music he ever recorded. People often think of the Vegas-era Elvis as fat and rubbish, but this is only what he became later (and people like me will always argue that he never actually was rubbish, even at his worst).

The album itself has been released a few times, most recently by the BMG specialist Elvis offshoot FTD, in a 2 disc set. This features both the live tracks from the original album in addition to a large number of excellent alternate studio versions of some of the same tracks. If you love Elvis this is most definitely an essential purchase.
