Advantages: what is love
Disadvantages: some weak songs
Just take a look at the cover artwork. If that image of Haddaway leaning over in an 'Ive got an irritable bowel condition' sort of fashion isn't enough to make you part with your money, then I don't know what will.
Haddaway rose to fame in the mid nineties off the back of his single 'What Is Love.' It was a hit across Europe and saw him conquer the UK top five. This album comprises 14 tracks.
We begin with 'What Is Love' which has a rich powerful vocal from Haddaway, as he questions love and relationships over a soaring synth hook. Plenty of drive carries the song. 'Life' offers up more of the same, with a punchy riff and sterling vocals from the man. There are also some super waily backing vocals on this track.
One of his finest moments is the understated ballad 'I Miss You' which sees him turn in a gentle performance with refined vocals. The record is not widely talked about, but is touching and sincere.
'Sing About Love' is something Haddaway obviously does quite a lot! The track is not very strong as he does whispered rapping on the verses and sounds a little creepy, before arriving at a lacklustre chorus. One to skip.
'Rock My Heart' is great fun though, with a blazing vocal and the sort of energy that you got from his earlier efforts, it still sounds great loud and just builds and builds. The album is given extra value with some bonus album versions, though I am not sure another rendition of 'Life' was needed. The album also leaves off the hit 'Catch A Fire' which is disappointing for hardcore Haddaway fans.
You can pick this up for under a tenner and if you like eurodance it will please you.
Summary: not bad

- 31/08/09 I think Haddaway had one of the first digital sounding CDs, so I bought it. It was great listening to it. Well great info and thanks for sharing. |
