... singing on this album is his melodic, epic trademark voice, although he also does some black metal vocals on one song. In terms of instrumentation, there are electric guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. In general, the state of affairs is medium tempo, melodic and melancholy instrumentation that sometimes lends more towards alternative rock than black metal. There are moments that lean towards black metal as well, though. "The Archaic Course" is a very unique album. What Borknagar did before and after this album ...more

Premium Review The Archaic Course - Borknagar: Epic Melancholy Metal (320 words)

Rating:

Borknagar was founded in Norway in 1995, and while the band's first couple of albums were black metal albums, The Archaic Course, the band's third album from 1998, is a very different story all together. "The Archaic Course" is very slightly folk music inspired. Some even refer to this album as "viking metal". An integral element of the sound of this album is the voice of Simen Hestnęs (I.C.S. You have to admire the dedication. There's more than a minor probability that it really isn't for you.

Generally good album Not as good as their other stuff

The best metal/hard rock album in time? maybe Allegedly ''the sell out album''

More energetic and powerful metal performance than the last E.P. Less material.

May assist your evil rituals, and is genuinely unsettling. Well, it's not even music, is it? It's not even noise nor ambience neither, it's just sound effects.
