This is one of the best intro's to a Deep Purple song from any album and makes the song really good. ... more ... The first half of the album is very strong, no dissapointment at all and each track is based around the good musicality that makes any song good and really separated Purples early stuff from their contemporaries'. After this the tracks become a bit more average, not to say that they aren't good but the last half of the album isn't as strong as the first. This is an eighties album and unlike 'Perfect Strangers' where Purple take the heavier eighties influences the latter half of 'Battle Rages...more |

I think this was the first album that Purple did when they got back together after the big split of mark II in the 70's. Various people managed to persuade Blackmore and Gillan to spend time in a studio together without killing anyone. So this is teh Big five -Gill, Blackmore, Glover, Lord, Paice, back together and in fine form. The album starts with a fade in keyboard riff which, when at volume, is picked up powerfully by the guitars. A great start and the track doesn't dissapoint. The album lifts from here really, 'Battle Rages On' the first track or 'Anya', track 3, are the ones that stand out from the album. They have the originality ... Read the complete review
