The Mars Volta are surely one of the most distinctive and... "difficult" sounding bands of our time. I've heard some describe their sonic onslaught as "three radios tuned into different stations" (so not so positive!) and others describe it as "the heaviest music they've ever heard". And we're talking "heavy metal" heavy here - we're talking dense, precise, sonically thrilling and ear-bendingly complex psychedelic prog rock.
