Advantages: A good starting point for getting into radiohead

Disadvantages: None

The Bends is the album that completely blew me away in my teenage years, and it still holds a very special place in my heart. It is probably the best radiohead album to start with if you have been living under a rock or something and have never heard them before

From the first track - Planet Telex - Radiohead are pushing the boundaries of what a conventional rock band should sound like - tremulous guitars that sound like synths, the simplicity of the lyrics

There's real angst prevelant in the title track , The Bends, as well as the offbeat song structure (and i mean from bar to bar - it doesn't make sense)

Fake Plastic Trees is beautiful and redefined the ballad for a whole new generation of groups. Which overall is a bad thing, but it's still a beautiful song

Just and My Iron Lung still send shivers down my spine. The anger in the tracks is very honest and drags you in completely The same is true of final track Street Spirit

The only weakness on the album is Sulk - an obvious attempt at a single that could match Creep. It lacks the honesty and experimentation of the rest of the album - The Bends is the sound of a band trying to find their new sound

Summary: Own it
