Advantages: Everything!
Disadvantages: Nothing!
Radiohead are one of my favourite bands, and The Bends, in my humble opinion, is their best, although perhaps not as technically and musically brilliant as their most famous 'OK Computer'. This album is full of emotion, showcasing Thom Yorke's extraordinary voice as it changes in style and pace.
The opener 'Planet Telex' crashes around, with breathtaking guitar riffs and Yorke's vocals weaving in and out. Then there's 'The Bends', also a higher paced, rocky number which then moves onto the hauntingly beautiful 'High and Dry' and then my personal favourite, 'Fake Plastic Trees' where his voice is so crisp and clear it can move you to tears. This is seen again in the soulful 'Nice Dream' which then crashes into the spitty vocals of 'Just', by far the most raucous song on the album. 'Black Star' is another favourite of mine, it's haunting melody staying with you, which can also be said of the last song, 'Street Spirit' where the fading melodies creates a song both sad and yet beautiful.
This album is made by a band who were desperate to move on from their debut's star single 'Creep' and move on they did. Keeping their indie rock roots, they grew and developed as a band as they toured and came out with this gem of an album that only gets better and better with each listen. YOU NEED TO OWN THIS ALBUM.
Summary: Not one bad track
