Advantages: Every song is brilliant
Disadvantages: Very depressing
I don’t own this album but am currently borrowing it from a friend, and I really need to tell people how damn good it is! But no-doubt if you are anywhere near being sane then you will already know for yourself. The Album has a very mellow theme but with a few faster songs as well. <01>Planet Telex - “You can crush it but it’s always there”: Begins with a sound effect that sounds like something from Buck Rogers or Battle Star Galctica which quickly becomes louder before being joined by keyboard and guitar. One of my favourite songs on the album. <02>The Bends - “I wish it was the sixties I wish I could be happy”: Starts with what sounds like commentary from a boxing match or something like that playing very quietly before the guitar starts. <03>High And Dry - “You’d kill yourself for recognition kill yourself to never ever stop”: Very pleasant sounding acoustic guitar playing that reminds me of an advert for something on the telly ages ago(Can’t for the life of me remember what though). <04>Fake Plastic Trees - “Her green plastic watering can for her fake plastic rubber plant”: Starts off very quietly and the volume builds up very slowly through the song. No idea what this is about but it’s a great song. <05>Bones - “And I used to fly like Peter Pan all the children flew when I touched their hands”: Some strange distorted guitar sounds at the beggining. The first Radiohead song that I knowingly heard. <06>[Nice Dream] - “They dug me my very own garden gave me sunshine made me happy”: Great sounding acoustic guitar yet again. A very uplifting song. <07>Just- “One day he’ll get you teach you how to be a holy cow”: About as heavy as this album gets(Pleas don't think that i'm sayin that music has to
be heavy to be good). <08>My Iron Lung - “Suck your teenage thumb toilet trained and dumb”: Part of it sounds like something by Blur but I can’t remember what song <09>Bullet Proof..I wish I was - “wax me mould me heat the pins and stab them in”: Starts off with more sound effects that sound like from they come from some old Sc-Fi show. Quite depressing this one. <10>Black Star - “The troubled word of a troubled mind”: Even more depressing. <11>Sulk - “You bite through the big wall the big wall bites back”: Not quite as depressing but not exactly happy <12>Street Spirit [Fade Out] - “Immerse your soul in love”: Yet again this reminds me of another song but I can’think what. A good but still rather depressing end to the album. This is my favourite Radiohead album to date (addmitedly the only other one I have heard in it's entirety is OK Computer) and is a great addition to any CD collection.

- 14/06/01 It certainly is a great album, especially put in the context of their last 2 albums which have sorely disappointed. Good opinion. |
