Advantages: Awesome guitar riffs and a good reason to shake your booty.
Disadvantages: Status Quo
Just like every other embarrassing dad on the planet, I am no stranger to an air guitar and have picked one up on many an occasion. This album (The Best Air Guitar Album In The World...ever Vol.1) gives me an excuse to pick it up and forget to put it down and unlike other compilation albums you will struggle to find a weak link anywhere.
So for effect I will reach down now and grab my air guitar, stick this album on, bang out a few riffs then return to write more.............. Ok it is now one hour later and my arm hurts from strumming my strings but I am here with my favourite tracks fresh in my mind and ready to tell you lot all about them and why you should have this album in your collection.
Let's start with Run DMC and Aerosmith doing walk this way, this track is a definite must for an air guitar, the guitar riffs throughout this track are supreme and when I strum along to them in a mental fashion the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I wonder what it would be like to be on stage performing this track for real.
Another huge favourite of mine appears on this album but not in the form I remember it in, the track is "Layla", performed on this album by Derek and the dominoes rather than the Eric Clapton version I grew up with. I prefer Clapton doing it but it still gets a big thumbs up from me as far as air guitaring goes.
The next track on my list of sheer brilliance will be the awesome "since you've been gone", for this track you have to be multi-talented because as well as performing the awesome guitar riffs you are definitely going to want to sing along.
Also floating around on this inspiring album are tracks like "sultans of swing" by Dire Straits (a song that is always going to get you going and is a true classic to boot), the instantly recognisable " The boys are back in town" by Thin Lizzy (I defy you to try and put the air guitar down whilst this tracks blares out around you), "My generation" by the Who (turns me into a mad rocker every time), "20th century boy" by the amazing T rex and "Johnny b good" by the outstanding rock and roll genius that is Chuck Berry.
Now I could go on and give mention to every track on here but you are I am sure getting the idea by now and although I said there are no weak links I probably should give mention to a few tracks that are just a teeny weeny bit weaker than the awesome tracks mentioned so far.
The main track that puts me off just ever so slightly is the awful attempt by Paul McCartney to cover the King of rock and roll "Elvis Presley`s" "All shook up". Another track that I just gently plucked away to rather than all out strumming was" Down Down" by Status quo (not the best track I have ever played along to).
This is an old album now and there have been a few volumes at least added to The Best Air Guitar Album In The World...ever collection but as the songs are all older songs anyway it is not as if the album has really aged that much and I find that the real air guitar music was all from an earlier era anyway.
If you are an aging rocker, a 60`s rock and roll fan or just an embarrassing dad like me then this album is a must for you without a doubt. Buy this album for around £6.99 and grab yourself a good air guitar (there are people actually trying to sell these on Ebay by the way, check it out) and get yourself grooving.
This album is a great listen and if you put enough effort into your air guitaring could be a great way to lose a few pounds too.
Summary: A must for all air guitarists and if you dont have an air guitar I will sell you one of mine!!
