Born in 1961 as plain George O'Dowd, he created the glamorous persona of Boy George, formed a band with Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and his soon-to-be lover Jon Moss and a legend was created! After calling themselves "In Praise of Lemmings", then "Sex Gang Children", they looked at their cultural differences and settled on 'Culture Club'. After enlisting the formidable backing vocals of helen Terry they hit No.1 worldwide with "Do You Really Want To Hurt Me" which paved the way for a succession of global hits. They didn't last very long but Culture Club are typical of seventies style music. This album is all their greatest hits but I don't remember there being too many of those. 'Do you wanna hurt me?' was a catchy tune and the lyrics were simple enough for everyone to remember. They weren't a patch on 'Karma Chameleon' which really 'did it' for the glamourous Boy George. The lyrics were two lines which continuosly repeated themselves. Boy George appears on the album cover in all his finery. He did usually appear decked up in 'frillies' and his Mum's makeup!
