Advantages: Nice mix of upbeat tracks and ballads

Disadvantages: Poor recording, some mediocre tracks

As a youngster, I managed to tune in to a radio channel playing solely oldies music from the 50s and 60s, it soon became one of my favourite channels and I knew the words to the songs, long before knowing who did what and only later realised that a fair proportion of those favourite tunes were by Dion & The Belmonts. This album has a wealth of early doo wop hits but its downsides include the quality of recording on some of the tracks and also that it seems there may be some strange versions of a few tracks.

The gelled up quiffs of this rather gooey looking trio may look dated and uncool today but its no wonder they gained a large fanbase back in their day with thes The fast paced Runaround Sue is as unstoppable as ever, a great song to sing along too, easily memorable, very catchy, fun and succesfully managing to tell a little story. The Wanderer is an equally cool track.

The band's well known ballad "Teenager in Love" is definitely a memorable track too and it's no wonder that it did so well back in the day. "I wonder Why" is a bit too straight forward but "Runaway Girl" - a slow dreamy track with a nice bit of sax which was originally the B-side to Runaway Sue, is a pleasant surprise.

The album has some of Dion's solo songs such as King Without A Queen as well as some of The Belmonts without Dion but it blends seemlessly and produces a very good best of pop track, which obviously sounds dated but still stands strong. The hits are all from the early days and do not include any of Dion's over the top later work from the 70s fortunately.
